Notre-Dame de Paris

The Cathedral

Notre-Dame is truly one of Paris’s most extraordinary landmarks. Nestled on the Île de la Cité in the heart of the city, it stands as a breathtaking example of Gothic architecture. Its grand façade and intricate details are remarkable, but stepping inside is where you truly feel the weight of its history and artistry.

The Restoration

After the devastating fire in 2019, the cathedral underwent a five-year restoration and officially reopened in December 2024. Seeing it now makes it clear that the project was a labor of love, with artisans dedicating themselves to preserving its authenticity by using original materials and traditional techniques. Knowing that Notre-Dame was originally built over the course of 180 years, starting in 1163, only deepens your appreciation for the work and care behind its rebirth.

A Special Visit

When I had a free morning, I made a point to arrive just before opening to avoid the crowds—and it was absolutely worth it. The quiet of the early hours allowed me to fully take in the incredible restoration. Every detail has been brought back to life with precision and reverence. I was fortunate to catch a morning Mass while I was there. Sitting in the pews, listening to the service in French, and absorbing the atmosphere of the space was an unforgettable experience. Even if you don’t speak the language, I highly recommend attending—it adds a deeply personal layer to your visit.

After Mass, I lit a candle for my mom, thinking of the time we visited when I lived here in my 20s. She loved this place, and it felt so meaningful to honor her memory in such a sacred space.

Standing there reminded me how much beauty can rise from challenges and loss. Notre-Dame’s restoration is a testament to resilience, faith, and care—a reminder to cherish the places, moments, and people who shape our hearts and hold them close, even when they’re no longer with us.

If you’re planning a trip, arriving early is key. I walked right in without a reservation, but by the time I left, a line had formed. That said, it seemed to move fairly quickly. For the latest visitor information, be sure to check their official website listed here.
